XXX PHYSICS OLYMPIAD

CIRCULAR N.3

May 15th, 1999

Dear colleagues and friends,

as you have already been informed this circular deals specifically with the characteristics of the software that you are supposed to use to translate the texts of the problems on 19th July and 21st July.

This circular is necessary because we have been obliged to do some changes concerning the computers: in March we were told by the company which should have supplied, as a sponsor, the necessary computers (O.S. DOS/Win), that they had no more computers available. For this reason we had to find another solution.

As far as the translations are concerned we will be allowed to use the computer room of the Engineer Faculty of Padua University where a local network with a suitable number of computers PC is at disposal. The O.S. installed on several computers is Linux, with Applixware, a software tool for Linux which is quite similar to Office for Windows.

The technicians who deal with the setting up of the computers tell us that their task would be easier and safer if you were so kind as to send us, attached to an e-mail, the True Type fonts that you are going to use for your translation; this would be convenient especially if you guess to have some trouble with the fonts. Furthermore they would like to get some more information concerning what you need. Therefore you are kindly requested to fill in the enclosed form and to sent it back to the 30th IPhO Office via e-mail, as soon as possible.

Looking forward to meeting you all in Padua in 65 days, thank you for your collaboration.

Giuliana Cavaggioni
