WIFI connection

The wireless network is present in particular in the meeting rooms, some antennas are positioned in the corridors, but we are not able to guarantee total coverage of the Department both for the limited number of bases we have available, and for the excessive thickness of the walls of this building.

Available networks

The available networks are five divided into two groups, those that require the 802.1x protocol for authentication and those that use web portal authentication.
Networks with 802.1x protocol (pd-wpa, INFN-dot1x, eduroam) require an initial configuration while the authentication is done with username and password, the username will be your usual one, the password will be that of the Windows PHYSICAL domain. If you do not remember this password you can change it to the following page .

> > Pd-wpa network
The pd-wpa network is reserved for those who have an account at the Padua Section and requests that the mac-address of the laptop’s wifi card be recorded by the calculation service. Registration is done via the web from the page .
The pd-wpa network gives access to all Section services.

Network authentication: wpa2 enterprise
Encription: aes or ccmp
Eap type: peap
Authentication method: mschapv2
Example configuration for Windows

> > INFN-dot1x network
The INFN-dot1x network is reserved for all those who have an account at any section of the Infn. Access to Section services is limited, as if you were on an external network.

Network authentication: wpa2 enterprise
Encription: aes or ccmp
Eap type: peap
Authentication method: mschapv2
Example configuration for Windows

> > Eduroam network
The eduroam network is reserved for all those who have an account with an institution that adheres to the EDUROAM project. It has the same limitations as INFN-dot1x.

Network authentication: wpa2 enterprise
Encription: aes or ccmp
Eap type: peap
Authentication method: mschapv2
Example configuration for Windows

> > INFN_Web Network
The INFN_Web network does not require configurations, just select them to join, then just open a web browser and you will be redirected to a page that asks for your username and password.
Authentication with username and password of the Windows domain FISICA, is reserved for local users of Padua, but allows access to all those who have a personal certificate issued by CA INFN, as long as the certificate is loaded on the browser that you are using. Access to Section resources is limited as if accessed from outside.

> > CAP Network
The CAP network is reserved for guests, it does not require configurations, just select them to associate, then just open a web browser and you will be redirected to a page for authentication, the username and password for access are assigned by the service calculation at the request of a host (indefinitely) made by the website.

> > The wireless network for us on the road
Similarly to what we do for guests, other Infn locations allow access to their wireless networks upon authentication.
In Padua we have a radius server for remote authentication of our users, so who is hosted at locations that have enabled the service, can log in to the INFN-dot1x network using their username as username followed by @ pd.infn.it and password for the Windows password. In the same way you can connect to the eduroam networks around the world.
Remember that authentication must be done with your username, not with the email address (nome.sognome@pd.infn.it).
Those who have a personal certificate from the INFN CA can also use INFN-Web in the Infn Sections that implement it.

Example configuration for Windows Italian version

The example applies to the pd-wpa network, but the configuration is identical for INFN-dot1x and eduroam with the exception of the name.

From the control panel select Network connection center – > Manage wireless networks – > Add.

The choices to make are:

  • Manually create a network profile
  • Name from the network: pd-wpa
  • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Encryption type: AES
  • Next
  • Change connection settings.
