Unity is strength also in the clouds
The fusion between the Padova INFN Cloud (INFN Padova Unit and National Laboratories of Legnaro Computing Infrastructure for science) and the cluster implemented within a computing project involving 10 departments of the University of Padova, is now concluded.
The result of this operation is the realization of a computing infrastructure, named ColudVeneto.it currently made of 1800 cores, 2 GPU and almost 250 TB of storage.
CloudVeneto.it resources geographically distributed in two sites (INFN Padova Unit/Physics and Astronomy Department and the Legnaro National Laboratories) are useable through a IaaS Cloud service (Infrastructure as a Service) that allows to manage, in a secure and reliable way, the assignment of the available computing resources, from time to time, rapidly and efficiently, to the users who make requests.
The Infrastructure enables the users registered on the CloudVeneto.it platform to request and easily configure computing systems, even complex, sized and customized for their own specific requirements.
At present there are about 200 registered users in CloudVeneto.it, from 70 different scientific projects of different areas, from physics to biology, chemistry, engineering and much more.
The computing technicians and technologists of INFN Padova had, and still have, a pioneering and crucial role in the development, implementation and management of this scientific computing infrastructure.
